Alteronce Gumby:

When the Nightmare Comes - I Believe

Long Gallery presented a Junteenth Celebration exhibition curated by Alteronce Gumby. The space featured installations by artists from local artists and artists in residence. When the Nightmare Comes - I Believe is an activation to protect against and help confront racism with Minkisi Nkondi power figures, a Congolese tool for spiritual protection, as focal points in the immersive 3-D collage. The exhibition represented the mental and emotional protection against racism and illness.

“How do we keep the monster under the bed from consuming us and making us vanish?  What keeps us protected and safe even when we are sleeping, even when we are not ‘woke.’” - Alteronce Gumby Learn More
